Delivery of 2 B777 Engine Inlet Access Stands for safe maintenance & inspection

The access stands are specifically designed for the GE90-115B engine. This engine has a fan radius of 3250 mm and is almost that large that a Boeing 737 fuselage fits inside (which has a diameter of 3800mm). With 115.300 lbf / 512.880 kN propulsion power it is the most powerful turbine engine that is used in commercial aviation and is only found on the Boeing 777. One GE90-115B engine delivers more than twice as much propulsion power than all four steam turbines of the Titanic together.
This spectacular scope requires very precise and accurate maintenance & inspection. Therefore the Engineering and Maintenance department of KLM needs to regularly measure the clearance between the fan blades and the cowling of the engine. During measurement no one is allowed to stand in the big cowling because that would influence the results and therefor NIJL Aircraft Docking was contacted to solve this problem.
First of all NIJL Aircraft Docking made accurate 3D scans of the engine. A model of this 3D scan was then used to engineer the stands. The result is a special stand that fits exactly into the inlet of the engine. The lower area of the stand can be placed to the front edge of the engine. In this position the working platform is situated exactly in front of the valuable fan blades.

A good example of our customized solutions!
